Bomb Farm Heroes: Roles, Abilities and Birth Rank Explained

Compare Bomb Farm heroes by role, rarity, natural attributes, abilities, permanent Birth Rank, energy, and the job your current squad needs.

Bomb Farm heroes should be judged by the problem they solve, not by one letter or frame color. The official game description names four roles—Attacker, Support, Collector, and Specialist—and advertises 20 abilities with ten ranks each. The August 31 developer update added a precise explanation of permanent Birth Rank.

The four Bomb Farm roles

Attackers supply direct progression damage. They are the first place to look when a timed gate expires or the next rock layer takes too long.

Supports improve how the squad functions. Read the ability scope carefully: a support effect may help the full active team, a narrower target, or a particular type of action.

Collectors turn a stable clear into better farming. They are valuable when damage is already sufficient. Replacing an essential Attacker with a Collector during a gate attempt can lower total progress even if the loot tooltip looks attractive.

Specialists handle narrower mechanics. Their value depends heavily on the exact ability, so they should not be ranked as a single group without reading the card.

A useful early squad covers damage first, then adds the support or economy effect that increases total output without breaking the clear.

What Birth Rank measures

Birth Rank grades the hero’s natural attributes within the allowed range for that rarity. The developer lists these bands and frequencies:

RankPosition in the rarity’s natural-stat rangeListed frequency
E0%–20%20%
D20%–40%20%
C40%–60%20%
B60%–80%20%
A80%–90%10%
S90%–100%10%

The chance is the same across rarities. Birth Rank is permanent. Leveling, stars, equipment, Forge upgrades, and allocated points can improve the hero, but the letter does not change because it records the original natural roll.

The correct comparison order

Use Birth Rank late in the decision, not first:

  1. Role: does the current team need damage, support, collection, or a specialist effect?
  2. Rarity and actual attributes: compare the numbers the hero will use.
  3. Ability: decide whether the effect fits farming, pushing, or uptime.
  4. Birth Rank: compare the quality of natural rolls, especially within the same rarity.
  5. Energy and equipment fit: confirm the hero can join the working rotation without creating a new bottleneck.

A Common S hero is not automatically stronger than a Mythic E hero. The S says the Common rolled near the top of the Common range; the E says the Mythic rolled near the bottom of the Mythic range. The ranges themselves differ.

Ability ranks and investment

An ability can be upgraded from rank 1 to 10, but the existence of ten ranks is not a reason to finish every ability immediately. Upgrade a hero after the role, ability, and roster position are clear. Early gold invested into a replaceable hero can delay gear or account-wide nodes that help the full rotation.

Ask whether the ability solves today’s constraint. Farming effects belong on reliable farm clears. Damage and tempo effects matter more on checkpoints. If an ability description changes after a patch, follow the live tooltip.

Hero panel and practical scouting

The September 1 update added a collapsible panel showing name, Rank, level, Energy, and Power for heroes in Battle. Use it before every push attempt. Power is a useful summary, but role coverage and the actual ability still matter.

For rotation planning, continue to Bomb Farm energy and XP sharing. Before consuming duplicates, read fusion, rarity, and Soulbound rules. When damage is the blocker, use the timed-gate diagnostic to test the squad.

FAQ

What are the four Bomb Farm hero roles?
The official Steam page lists Attacker, Support, Collector, and Specialist.
Can Birth Rank improve?
No. The developer states that levels, stars, equipment, Forge upgrades, and allocated points do not change Birth Rank.
Is a Common S stronger than a Mythic E?
Not necessarily. Birth Rank evaluates natural attributes inside the range of the hero’s own rarity, and rarity ranges are different.
