Bomb Farm Skill Tree Guide: Abilities and Upgrade Priorities
Plan the Bomb Farm skill tree around real bottlenecks, balance account-wide upgrades against gear, and avoid spreading early resources too thin.
Bomb Farm has two systems that can both sound like “abilities.” Heroes have individual abilities—20 are advertised, each with ranks from 1 to 10—while the Abilities screen also contains a large account-wide skill tree inspired by Path of Exile. Mixing those concepts leads to poor spending.
Start with a written bottleneck
Open the tree only after stating the problem in one sentence. “I have gold” is not a problem. “My best team misses the X-10 timer,” “House recovery cannot support a third team,” or “the previous farm stage produces too slowly” are useful problems.
Then inspect the reachable nodes and choose the shortest branch that changes that outcome. Tooltips and costs in the live client are authoritative; launch updates can rebalance values, so this guide focuses on the decision method rather than a brittle list of exact numbers.
Account nodes versus hero ranks
An account node can benefit several squads. A hero rank strengthens a specific ability on one hero. The wider benefit does not automatically make the tree better: a small global bonus may be less useful than ranking the ability that gets the push team through the next gate.
Use this order:
- Confirm the active team’s role mix is sensible.
- Fix obvious gear gaps on heroes you actually field.
- Buy a tree node when its account-wide effect solves a repeated problem.
- Rank individual hero abilities when the hero and ability will remain in the rotation.
The Bomb Farm hero guide explains how rarity, Birth Rank, and ability fit together.
Four practical branch goals
Progression damage
Choose this when timed stages are the blocker. Do not assume more loot fixes a timer. Improve effects that increase reliable output across the push squad, then test the gate with full energy before committing more gold.
Farming economy
Economy becomes valuable after a stage is stable. A modest income improvement applied for many hours can beat a large combat purchase that does not unlock a new efficient stage. Compare gains over time, not just the number printed on one node.
House and roster capacity
Three-team rotation only works when heroes can recover and there is space to hold a useful roster. If the mine stops because every trained hero is empty, infrastructure may outperform another damage upgrade. Read energy and XP sharing before assuming the tree is the only fix.
Convenience and unlocks
Some nodes unlock access or reduce friction rather than adding raw power. Evaluate them by how often they remove a manual step. A convenience node used every session can be efficient; a branch opened “for later” can strand early gold.
When gear should win the budget
Gear is easier to target. If one equipped piece is clearly weak, a safe improvement on that piece provides an immediate, visible result. The skill tree is better when the same account limitation hurts several heroes or teams.
Before spending, compare three questions:
| Question | Tree is favored when… | Gear is favored when… |
|---|---|---|
| Who benefits? | Multiple active teams | One key hero |
| How soon is the result? | The next node directly solves the bottleneck | An equipped item has a clear safe upgrade |
| How replaceable is it? | The bonus remains account-wide | The item is already a long-term piece |
Do not push disposable equipment into risky forging just to avoid a tree purchase. See Bomb Farm gear and Ritual for the equipment route.
Keep a simple build record
Because the game is new and updates are frequent, take a screenshot before a major branch. Record the date and the problem you intended to solve. If performance does not improve, you will know whether the assumption or the upgrade was wrong.
The official Bomb Farm Steam description confirms the account-wide tree, dozens of nodes, four hero roles, and individual ability ranks. Check recent Bomb Farm research before following an old build image.
